The Library Program
The Riverdale School library's mission is to provide our students with the best
possible collection of current, high quality materials to support our goal
of promoting life-long learning. The Riverdale library strives to be a valuable
resource for the school staff and the school community in a collaborative effort to create the best learning environment for our students.
Students at Riverdale Elementary have the opportunity to visit the library once a week during scheduled library, and book exchange times. The library is also open Monday to Friday after school for book exchanges and research purposes.
During library lessons students learn library skills including: library orientation, and organization, the physical properties of library materials, the use of the school’s Online Catalogue, effective and ethical use of resources including the internet, the research process, appreciation of literature and how to use community resources.
The Riverdale library is committed to providing quality materials and an environment that supports the individual, educational, and recreational reading needs of the students, and staff. The library strives to offer services and instruction which implement, support, and enrich the school curriculum assisting students and staff to identify, locate, evaluate, and use materials in a variety of formats.
